The Royal Navy has unveiled plans to build nuclear submarines capable of launching Trident 2 D5 missiles.

The submarines, which will cost a whopping £31bn, are set to be operational in the early 2030s, accommodating 130 crew members, including three chefs and one doctor.

A ballistic missile launcher will allow the boats to pick up the baton as the UK’s main nuclear deterrent replacing their predecessors the Vanguard class.

New vessels will also feature separate female crew quarters, toilets and washing facilities.
