The wrong ZIP code can mean the difference between getting your packages, goods and mail, and then not receiving the entire package.

What exactly is an ZIP? The ZIP refers to Zone Improvement Plan. A lot of Nigerians are confused regarding the distinction between Zip Code and postal code. With regard to the ZIP Code, this is specific to the United States of America for postal services. But outside of the United States, what other countries are using, such as Nigeria are postal codes.

We could say that the postal code used in Nigeria is the American equivalent to what is known as the ZIP Code. It is not restricted to Nigeria by itself, since many other countries other than the United States use the postal code to fulfill the same functions that the ZIP Code in Nigeria is utilized for.

What is +234?

There has been a widespread belief in Nigerians about the fact that Nigeria’s +234 code is its ZIP code however this isn’t accurate. The +234 number is Nigeria’s calling code. This allows you to call Nigerian telephone numbers, since those calling outside of Nigeria must include the code +234 prior to their Nigerian telephone number. If you don’t in order to call a local telephone number that is not located in Nigeria won’t connect.

The equivalent of zip code Nigeria

The equivalent in Nigeria to what is known as the ZIP Code is the postal code. A lot of Nigerians are shocked by the postal code since they are aware that the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) can be considered to be inoperable. While it’s not as well-known as it used to be however, NIPOST is still an integral part of our lives. Nigerian Postal Service still carries an important function in how we deliver and receive parcels and goods across the country.

The Nigerian ZIP codes, also known as Postal Codes typically consist by six numbers. These six digits vary depending on the state. Each state comes with its distinctive ZIP Code or Postal Code. If you require a ZIP Code is needed the codes need to be provided.

Each state has its own distinctive Zip Codes that are unique to each state,. However, Lagos is the sole one that has two ZIP Codes or Postal Codings. The two ZIP Codes are divided each, which represent Mainland Lagos and the Island.

Does the ZIP Code or Postal Code mean the same thing?

Absolutely! Outside of the United States of America, the Postal Code represents the Zip Code. The postal code may be used instead in place of ZIP Code. Every state in Nigeria have unique ZIP/Postal Codes. This includes the following;

They are the states with unique ZIP/Postal codes. These codes can be used for mail, since it allows the delivery of items parcels, packages, and other items significantly easier.
How Nigeria’s ZIP/Postal Codes Function

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has created an efficient method for establishing and assigning the ZIP/Postal Codes to states. The entire country is divided into nine sections or zones. This is the first number in the Code. Also, the codes vary between 1 and 9 in accordance with the pattern of numbers assigned to.

With the complete numbers that make up Postal/ZIP Code being 6 the third and second numbers from the postal code indicate the location of dispatch for all mail that is outgoing. This is a highly efficient method for mail delivery that was created through NIPOST. Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) which is still relevant for today’s needs in the distribution of services and goods to their respective destinations.

For Clarity’s Sake

When the use of a ZIP code is needed for any type of business don’t get caught by confusing the ZIP/Postal Code with Nigeria’s dialing number of +234. Being aware of the correct step to take will spare you a lot of frustration and heartache caused by the misplacement or loss of parcels, goods and other items designed for specific locations.

In conclusion

Based on this information that the question of Nigeria’s ZIP code actually is addressed. Additionally, the widespread belief among Nigerians , that it is true that the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has been shut down is not the case, as it’s actually operational, and oversees the postal and parcel services sector.
