Does dance help my child’s imagination and boost their well-being?

Whilst dance is a good activity for toddlers but it also serves as an opportunity to express creativity. While exercise can be fun, the chance to let your creativity flow is as essential as exercising and maintaining a balanced diet in the development of healthy children due to what life skill they learn. Dancing can make a person feel more energized and boost their mood. It also helps with serious issues including depression and anxiety1, and this isn’t just for adults. Group dancing can be a means to relieve stress and tension while also providing a respite from everyday anxieties and also a outlet for emotions and imagination.

Do dance classes offer physical benefits on my child?

There are physical advantages to partaking in dance classes when you are a kid. Through dance, kids develop the ability to move more freely whilst developing the ability to operate in different settings. They can comprehend the impact that their actions have on the world surrounding them. Dancing can also help improve a child’s coordination, particularly at a time when they are developing rapidly in a constantly evolving and changing world. A good coordination is crucial in the development of skills that are learned in other parts of life, for example, riding a bicycle as well as learning to manage multiple tasks. Moving and dancing patterns develop kinaesthetic memory. Additionally, it builds endurance and strength from an early age. This creates a solid platform that will help your child develop physically and the level of physical fitness.

Dance and strong, healthy muscles

The average human has 642 muscles within their body. Performing arts activities will bring children from a variety of experiences and backgrounds, creating an environment that is different from the normal environment that children are familiar with. Children are forced to learn to communicate and adapt in new ways. Through navigating the new world through their creativity, children learn to establish trust and develop effective relationships.

Being part of an activity that is a part of a group such as performing a dance routine encourages teamwork and builds the ability to perform well within a group. This aids children in developing patience, listening and leadership skills as they start to help each other with working out the steps. They also learn to accept vulnerability and that it’s fine not to be able to master every skill the first time and that you should feel confident enough to ask for help, either from the teacher or from another student.

Building self-confidence

In a study of parents with children aged between 5-7, it was discovered that on average 82% of parents thought confident in their children’s levels improved due to attending dancing classes. In the same study, we inquired from parents as to why they chosen to take their child to a dance workshop. The second most popular response was ‘that it will help build the confidence of my child’s. The results of this study supports our belief that dance is an important tool to use to build a child’s confidence. While participants in the study did mention the ability to dance as a reason for sending their children to Chinese dance schools workshops, however, the emphasis was more on developing social skills, and primarily confidence. In addition, the most frequent answers when asked about life skills their child had attained were ‘social interaction’ and ‘public speaking “improved communication skills” and ‘made friends’. It’s awe-inspiring to think of the things that can be achieved through studying performing arts and the positive effects the arts have on a child’s interpersonal development.

Nonverbal communication is a significant part of all communication. It is crucial for children to understand that it is possible to convey a message both verbally and with the appropriate body signals, and to understand the signals of other people. Learning about dance and movement can help children develop an understanding of their body language and that of the body language of others. Although it’s fairly easy to communicate without words simple emotions such as “happy” and “sad” However, studying dance can teach children how to express more complex emotions and to read and react when an individual is physically moving.

Perseverance and self-motivation

When children learn to dance at a young age, they gain self-motivation and perseverance. Dance encourages children to try new things and try different methods of solve problems. It is vital to a child’s personal development that they learn the importance of trial-and-error and that, if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. The feeling of satisfaction and achievement they experience when they’ve learned complex movements will inspire the child to take this desire to other areas of their lives.

Mental dexterity

The practice of repetition and practice when dancing enhances mental dexterity. The practice of body movements and gestures can help children better absorb information and increases their capacity to absorb and hold information. There’s a belief that lingers around dance classes that kids should only attend when they wish to perform on a stage. The truth is that this couldn’t be more far from the reality. Dance classes are an ideal stepping stone for children who are showing the first signs of developing a aptitude for performance. However, there are many benefits to taking dance classes for children who are not confident, is self-conscious, or shows no enthusiasm for performing.
