Many people are enthralled by the breathtaking lights that fireworks bring out. However, few realize just how hard creating lights that we have come to have come to know and appreciate. Everything from the direction that each sparkle takes to the colors they shine in is designed by hand with the intention of creating the most remarkable impression possible.

When we’re talking about the topic of colors, let’s talk about the two mechanisms responsible for the production of colours in fireworks including incandescence and luminescence. We’ll also talk about the different materials utilized to produce various colours to help you grasp the idea of what it takes to create different colors in fireworks.

Light

The term “luminescence” refers to the light created not directly through heat but by other means. Also, luminescence is a type of cold light that occurs at much lower temperatures in comparison to incandescent light that is created directly from heat. It can actually be produced at room temperature.

How does it work in the real world? It all boils down to the atoms. Luminescence can be produced by allowing an atom to absorb energy. In the case of firework would be the temperature that excites the atom itself. This causes the atom to release energy in the forms of photons, which our eyes pick up and translate into light. The color of the photon on the other hand depends on the wavelength of the light that is directly affected by the energy of the photon.

Incandescence

As we have mentioned that luminescence is the process that an atom absorbs energy before sending it out in the form of photons. This is different from incandescence where light comes directly by heat. When items get hotter, they start to glow, generally emitting particular lights, such as yellow, orange, red then white, the most powerful type of light.

In fireworks, this glow is controlled by precise manufacturing and using different materials to allow the firework to reach the desired temperature to create a distinct glow. The materials that are used to produce glowing effects include titanium and aluminium and both increase temperatures of the firework substantially and cause the glow to be bright, lighting up the sky at night.

The ingredients that cause colour

We’ve now talked about luminescence and incandescence let’s explore the various ingredients that are used to create different colours. This will give you an idea of the kind of material used to make the light shows we are familiar with and will assist you in understanding what’s required to make specific colours.

Red fireworks are generally created using lithium salts or strontium salts. Green is produced by using barium compounds mixed with chlorine producer to make the compound in place. White can be made through incandescence, using aluminum to cause the glow to be very bright. Blue can be created using copper compounds and still blended together with chlorine producers in order to create the color. In the end, yellow is made through sodium nitrate and other sodium compounds.

In the case of any other color between, a mixture of two colors is employed to get specific outcomes. For instance, purple will require the compounds that make green and red. However, it is evident just how complicated it can be to produce certain colours and also to time their burning and direction so that the light shows are impressive.

Conclusion

As you can see, the science of fireworks can be complex. It takes a significant amount of time and skill to produce top quality fireworks. And for the majority of these high-quality fireworks, the result is apparent in the price. Therefore when you’re looking for the top of the best fireworks to illuminate the night, we recommend buying more expensive fireworks. The price is not only because of the size or complexity of the firework, however, it is also due to the work put in by the manufacturer to ensure it provides the best experience possible!
