Golf can be very humbling as well as a lot of people don’t like to feel or look silly in the green, at the range or even the fitting studio. This is a major reason for why many middle and high handicap golfers aren’t fitted to their equipment.

To some, the notion of having a professional evaluate their swing, take high-speed footage and gather a lot of data on how they hit the ball may appear like torture. If their swing is uneven, they ask why they should be investing in equipment that is custom-fit for them?

Statistics show that golfers who think about these things are likely those who could be most benefit from fitting clubs to their specific needs.

Club Champion recently reviewed the data of high handicap golfers who were adapted to their driver. It wasn’t their first time they were fitted and it was thought they would make huge improvements, however their average improvement by a ball’s speed 3.6 millimeters. They also reduced their spin rate average by nearly 400 rpm, and they had an average increase in distance by more than 15 yards.

In the same study, an assemblage of players with a mid-handicap who were previously fitted improved their ball speed by about 2mph after getting fitted again. They reduced their average spin speed by 431 rpm, and extended their distance by more than 12 yards.

Players with low handicaps assessed by Club Champion boosted the speed of their balls by 1.5 miles per hour, slowed down an average of 90 rpm in spin speed and extended their distance by approximately 5 yards.

The figures vary from player to player, however the main takeaway is the same: when you are able to get a customized to your driver golfers who are more likely to score higher scores are able to be the ones to anticipate the most significant performance improvements.

Similar tests were conducted with fairway-oriented woods and hybrids, and irons, middle and higher handicappers also had better performance than those with low handicaps.

Don’t let the old myths stop you from improving your game and enjoying more playing the golf course. If you’re thinking about hitting the 90- or even 100 mark, then great custom club fitters can be your new best friend.
