Do you want to improve your customer experience and increase sales?

Starting out: what’s the significance of music?

Music is an effective method to penetrate our innermost being.

Have you ever found yourself singing an anthem incessantly? or feeling a bit emotional when you hear a tune in the air? or reminiscing every word of the teen anthem that you’ve not heard for a long time?

Music can affect our mood and energy levels also affect memory recall and the way we behave. It can increase our feelings of being connected to experiences, people and even spaces, including businesses.

This is the effect that researchers have been studying over the last two decades. Research has shown that there is a direct link between the soundtrack and the business’s performance. Yet, music is one of the least utilized instruments for business success.

In the present, whether you’re an Ops Director , or a self-appointed DJ at the store, you’ll be fully aware of – and capitalize on the power of music in your work.

The impact of background music services on the customer experience

First impressions can last a lifetime.

In his well-known TED speech, Daniel Kahenman (the Nobel-winning personality psychology rock star) discusses how it just needs one negative experience to alter a person’s perception of the entire experience. (We explore this further within our post on Why music is important blog article).

Kahenman’s words can be a powerful motivator for companies to ensure that every interaction with their customers is positive. From the moment a client enters the premises to the moment they depart each step of the customer’s journey must add value.

Music is an essential part of this process. 81% of customers believe that music for business background improves their mood. 71% of them say it creates more positive atmosphere.

From the time a visitor arrives at the door until the time they leave every step of the customer’s journey must add value.

When people feel comfortable in their surroundings, they are more relaxed in the space. Do you realize that playing music that customers like increases their likelihood by 24% likely to purchase the product?

It’s not surprising that 84% of companies that are focused on improving customer experiences have seen an increase in revenues.

Business background music is a way to build your brand’s image

It’s a difficult market. Online shopping is always growing as is as is the High Street ever crowding. Businesses are searching for innovative ways to increase their brand’s visibility so that they stand out. The customer experience is becoming crucial.

In 2013, a Walker Information study predicted that by 2020 , customer satisfaction would surpass product and price as the most important factor in determining brands. We’re witnessing that now.

Music is a simple and effective method of creating the mood and establishing rapport with your market.

When we think about the elements that create a brand or the customer experience when we think of customer experience, we usually think of visual elements such as branding, decor, signage and so on. We often overlook the crucial role of music in creating an identity , too. However, according Brand Channel Brand Channel, 96% of brands that use music that is consistent with their brand tend to get remembered by their customers.

This makes music a straightforward and cost-effective means to set the tone for your brand while also building trust with your market.

Additionally the study by HUI study found that playing music with a brand’s name over a general mix of songs could increase sales by 9 percent. (Which we will discuss more in this article on how background music can help your blog post).

Background music can help build the loyalty of customers

A satisfied customer is a returning customer.

Do you realize that signing up an additional customer is about six times more than keeping an existing customer? In addition, you’re 50 percent more likely to win an offer to the existing customer.

Thus, a loyal customer base is an easy method of maintaining sales. However, maintaining the confidence of these customers takes more effort.

The perfect soundtrack will’speak the words’ of your customer base, that resonates the values of their preferences and hopes.

Music can be an important component to this approach. A well-crafted soundtrack is able to’speak the language of your client base, that is in tune the values of their interests and hopes. It can boost a person’s feeling of belonging to an organization, and also increase their likelihood of coming back.

A study of Music Works found that 31 percent of people stated that they would be willing to return to a particular business if they felt they had the right music. 21% of them said they would also recommend the business. This is why more than two-thirds of business owners say that music is a good way to encourage the business to return.

There’s more to it than just loyalty cards. Music can make your ideal customers feel welcome as they enter, and recognized once inside, consequently more likely to come back after they leave.

Business background music can increase the sales

Your background music for business has many benefits intangible – more brand recognition, improved customer satisfaction, loyalty. However, when it comes to the vitality of your company – sales, can you tell an actual distinction?

You bet. In a groundbreaking Milliman investigation, Milliman demonstrated that playing music with a slower beat slowed the speed at which people were able to move through a shop. What’s the most fascinating conclusion? Milliman also noted that this shift in the behavior of customers resulted in a 38% more sales. (If you’re interested, investigate this Milliman research in the Matching Music with your trade patterns blog post).

Millian was among the first people to link music and customer behavior, however, he wasn’t the only one:

Cain-Smith and Curnow showed how the volume of music could impact traffic flow through an area of shopping.

Caldwell and Hibbert linked the slow pace to increased duration of stay-time and drinks purchases.

Knoferle discovered that minor musical keys can drive extra expenditure in certain contexts.

HUI Research found that brand-matched music used in the food and drink industry can boost sales by 9 percent.

A Texan study has found that certain genres can cause more costly purchasing purchases.

(And If you’re someone who loves numbers (and if you’re a numbers person, we cover more details in our article on how background music can improve businesses post).

Phew! The figures are as fascinating… even shocking. If you’re scratching your mind about which of Tchaikovsky or Beyonce will bring in more sales, remember those words from Milliman himself:

The exact numbers aren’t important…what these results suggest is significant: It’s possible to influence behavior with music, but the influence could either aid in the goals in business or hinder it’

There’s no universal musical way to guarantee sales that are skyrocketing. If music is integrated with your goals for the space (whether increasing visitors, encouraging dwell, or even encouraging drink purchases) it could have an impact that is quantifiable.

Background music can boost the productivity of employees

There’s a different category of people that music for your business background can have a greater impact on than your customers: your employees. While there are many ways to increase employee productivity, music may be one of the most simple adjustments to put into place.

An earlier MusicWorks along with a Mindlab study showed that an astounding 81% of employees did better when listening music. This is what they found out.

Did you notice the words of MindLab neuropsychologist Dr. David Lewis said?

“Music is an extremely effective management tool that can boost the effectiveness of a workforce. It can have a tremendously positive influence on employee motivation and morale, which can help to boost productivity and even the company’s bottom line.’

The reason for this increase in productivity according to other studies it is due to the mood-enhancing properties of music. This is why 74 percent of employees who enjoy music love going to work when great music is playing. Also, 75 percent of business owners believe the ability to let employees listen to music can help with team bonding.
