Here are five reasons to convince you to join our waiting list to take a pottery course or to make pottery.
5 reasons to take a pottery class

1. Pottery classes make it fun!

This is the most important part if your spare time is going to be spent on something exciting. When you work with clay and create practical, functional items by hand, pottery allows you to go back to the core of your being. Feeling the clay between your hands is something that’s really liberating and enjoyable. It takes you back to when being muddy was part of your childhood. Celebrities are getting in on this action because it’s so fun!

Fun can be found in making your own creations, and not having to follow a set pattern. Handmade pottery encourages imperfection. You don’t have to worry about getting it wrong, and you don’t have to make it perfect. That’s why handcrafted pottery is so much fun! Enjoy your pottery class, so let go of all your inhibitions!

2. You’ll find like-minded and friendly people

It is possible to work in your own bubble while also working with others in a pottery class. Both introverts, and extroverts, can enjoy pottery making in a class.

If you are creative and enjoy working with your hands, a pottery course is a great way of meeting people who share the same outlook or to meet new people when you move to a new location. Many people join classes not because they are interested in making pottery but to make new friends. You will find that you develop a passion for pottery. Some students will even go to a coffee shop or bar after pottery classes. This can make it a great hobby if you’re looking for something social.

3. It’s an opportunity for creativity, even if it isn’t ‘arty’.

Creativity is a broad term that can refer to many things. Each person may have a different definition. Even if you are unable to create the Mona Lisa or Valentino’s masterpieces, that doesn’t mean your creativity isn’t there. It’s often because we don’t have time to do creative activities or think creatively because our work is too corporate or pragmatic.

Creativity is important because it has many benefits on the brain. We’ve previously talked about how pottery improves mental wellness. It helps you relieve stress and deal with emotions. Focusing on what you are passionate about rather than your worries can create positive energy. Making pottery increases brain plasticity. This stimulates communication between various parts of the brain. A connected brain allows you to process information more quickly and efficiently. The creative act of making pottery, whether at a class or at home, can help focus the brain.

4. This gives you the opportunity to switch off

Myers-Brigg’s research found that people who are constantly “on” are more likely experience high stress levels, mental exhaustion, or burn-out. So it is vital to take a short break and fully disconnect.

This could be as simple as going for a run after work, or having a ‘no screen’ rule the last hour before bed. You don’t have to run or go to the gym to get your mind off of screens. However, taking a pottery course is a great way not only to disconnect but also to limit screen time. After you’ve made the clay, there’s no need for you to answer emails, check your phone, or answer messages. You will find yourself virtually uncontactable for several hours during a pottery course, which is great for disconnecting with the outside world and reconnecting with yourself.

5. To learn something brand new

Learning is good for the brain regardless of age. By learning how to throw pottery, you can keep your mind engaged while making pottery. It is a great way to keep the body moving and help you see things from a different perspective. It can be very rewarding and also have therapeutic benefits. You may find a true talent and unlock potential. You can feel useful by making pottery, especially if you make something for your home. You can feel proud of your creation, even if it isn’t perfect. This feeling of accomplishment is great for your mental wellbeing.

Take action, let your creativity flow and sign up now for that pottery class that’s been on your mind! You might be surprised and discover a talent that you didn’t know you had. Get in touch with us to learn more about our pottery courses, pottery classes or memberships.
