Freshbydotun, a Nigerian menswear brand that specialises in contemporary traditional outfits, casuals, and formal wear for men; and TruFlair Bridal, a couture bridal house from Nigeria that specialises in custom wedding dresses and luxury evening dresses; made their debut in London by organizing a collaborative private viewing event to launch their respective collections – Heritage Collection by Freshbydotun and Embodied Collection by TruFlair. The event took place on the 21st of October, 2022 at the St Mary Magdalene church in Paddington, London with the press, fashion influencers, and fashion experts in attendance. The creative directors of both brands were present to answer questions and explain the inspiration behind their designs. The designs were also displayed on the catwalk which was full of glitz and glamour.
Freshbydotun’s heritage collection boldly displayed the richness of the African culture while paying homage to its traditions and history. The pieces were bold and rich and according to the creative director, Adedotun Adeyeye, they were influenced by the African heritage (hence the name) with contemporary styles that are universally appealing. The catwalk featured beautiful African prints, hand-beaded suits, damask and velvet fabrics with attention to detail and craftsmanship.
The embodied collection by TruFlair Bridal featured fully corseted dresses with intricate detailing to create masterpieces. According to Miracle Folaranmi, the creative director, the collection paid a tribute to all brides, relating it to how they are in sync or become one with their dress on their wedding day. She described the collection with a simple quote, “the bride, her dress, her love, her form, as one”. Explaining how the wedding dress also serves as a witness to the love shared by the couple. The collection featured a range of silhouettes and was created for brides who will love to make a statement on their big day.
Freshbydotun and TruFlair bridal have reiterated their commitment to taking their brands to the global stage, starting from one of the fashion capitals of the world, London.
