When we hear the word “media relations what do you imagine? If you’re a fan of television shows, you may consider it a job within the police force to talk with the media about incidents. If you’re in the business world you may think it’s the same as PR. Perhaps you’ve seen the word “PR” pop up in conversation, but you don’t exactly what it is. It’s okay, everyone began somewhere, which is why media relations can be a specific marketing area which many companies do not think about in the beginning of their lives. What exactly is media relations and do you really need it? business actually requires?

What is Media Relations??

From an outside perspective media relations and public relations appear alike. However, if we examine what media relations is actually defined its purpose is much more clear:

Media collaboration to inform the general public about an organization’s goals, policies and practices in an efficient, consistent and trustworthy way.’

Media relations are all about building and maintaining these close relationships with the media and making use of them to advertise your business. Your company could use a variety of media outlets to present your story, from magazines to TV as well as radio and newspapers. Through harnessing the power and coverage of these media sources, you will be able to gain more influence and increase confidence with prospective customers.

You might be thinking ‘how is this different from PR?’ which is understandable and it is surprisingly simple to explain. The reason is that while the basic goal is the same in that they oversee the relationships between your business and a third-party – the focus is different. In PR you’re dealing with your public and customers directly. If your company is offering information intended to influence individual’s behavior, such as getting them to purchase or go to your shop or to visit your store, then you’re conducting Public Relations, also known as PR. However, media relations focuses on the interactions of your business with the media. As such, it is a different process from the actual audience, however it has a greater chance than an impact. Also media relations is focused on making sure that your message is (and YOUR ROAR) heard to as many people as you can through the use of media.

What are the advantages that come from Media Relations to Business?

As with any marketing endeavor media relations can be very successful and profitable for your business provided you put your time and energy to it in a proper manner. Finding publicity for your company is a game changer, especially when you’re a young company struggling to establish itself in an industry. Utilizing media relations in your marketing strategy can provide your company a variety of advantages, and the advantage is that the approach is able to be tailored to your goals for business. Here are a few of the most significant benefits a company could reap from media relations:

Building Brand Anonymity

The first and most important thing first is that putting your business name mentioned on the news will significantly increase the visibility of your brand. Media relations can help you bring your brand name into the public eye and provides you with an opportunity to inform people about your business and why you’re doing it, as well as the reasons you’re the best at doing what you’re good at.

Increase Credibility

Customers expect a business to guss up and claim to be the best. This is an expectation in the field of marketing. This is why any type of third-party verification will go a long ways to convert potential customers on the fence. Third-party endorsements can be a fantastic method to establish your credibility within the marketplace and to build trust in your customers before they purchase which is one of the benefits of having media coverage. The media will only present stories that they think that their readers will find interesting which adds a great deal confidence to the company immediately.

Increase Traffic

Like all forms or method of advertising, all paths must lead on your web page. Any kind of press coverage generally leads to an increase in searches for your brand on Google people looking specifically for your company name. It’s only natural since people are eager to know more about your company after reading about your company in the news. In the same way, you may also see an increase in your social media followers. Press coverage that is well-placed will result in a massive influx of visitors to your site as well as grow your social media following and improve your SEO ranking while at the same time.

Cost savings

A well-planned PR strategy will help businesses reduce the cost of labour and other expenses, since trained employees are more productive, and companies won’t have to invest the same amount on marketing and advertising.

Naturally, the winning formula is a mix of excellent PR and effective media relations. If you reach out to your targeted market, both directly and via the media you’ll increase your chances of impressing them and converting potential customers into customers. Media relations are a key aspect in creating brand recognition, increasing credibility and authenticity, and more importantly , establishing relationships with prospective customers.
