Engaged ring shopping can be exciting! Finding the right ring is exciting! Even though engagement ring shopping can seem like a lot of fun, it can also become confusing, especially if you haven’t done it before. We have compiled a list of 10 things that you should know before you decide to buy an engagement rings.
1. Sometimes settings and diamonds can be purchased separately

Let’s get started with something most people don’t know. Setting and center stone are often sold separately. If you’re looking for an engagement ring to buy, you need to look for both your center gemstone (typically a white one) and the setting (the metal structure that holds your central stone).

Some rings can come pre-set, with a center diamond. Preset rings can be made by modern jewelers. It is now more common for jewelers not to sell the settings and center stones separately.

2. Know the 4Cs

If you’re looking to buy a diamond ring for your engagement, you will need to be familiar with the four Cs. The 4Cs represent diamond’s quality gradings. Here’s a brief overview:

Cut: A measurement of the diamond’s clarity, which influences how it captures light.

Color: This is how colorless a diamond white is.

Clarity: An internal and external measurement of the flawlessness of a diamond.

Carat: An indicator of how large a particular diamond is in weight.

3. Experts in Jewellery Say Prioritize Diamond Cut

Even though each of the 4Cs can be important, jewelry professionals recommend prioritizing cut for diamond evaluations. Wondering what this means? If a diamond is not cut to a high standard, it will not reflect light well. This can cause it to look dull and dark.

4. Style is all about the shape and setting

Your engagement ring style will be influenced most by your center stones’ shape and setting style. Shape refers specifically to the shape of your diamond centre stone. Each shape can have a different style. Your engagement rings’ setting will also have an effect on their style. There are many options for setting your engagement ring: classic, vintage-inspired and modern.

5. Buy in Advance

Your jeweler will need time to place your preferred diamond in your ring’s setting unless you buy a premade engagement ring. You might also have to order your engagement ring, which can be a time-consuming process. It is important to order your engagement rings well in advance so that your ring arrives on the date you desire. An excellent rule of thumb is 6 weeks ahead. This gives you plenty time to adjust, but check with your jeweler about the exact time your ring will be ready.

6. There’s no “right” amount you can spend

You may have heard there is a dollar limit on the amount you can spend on an engagement band. The average person will say that you should invest the equivalent to 3 months salary in an engagement band. However, there is no “right” amount to spend on an Engagement Ring. You should only spend what is comfortable for you. Your budget is your personal decision. You should consider your financial circumstances and not follow old-fashioned “rules.” Once you have decided, you can spend whatever amount you like on your engagement band.

7. You Can Always Upgrade Later

It doesn’t matter if you can not get the large, flashy engagement ring of your dreams when you get engaged. It is common to upgrade an engagement ring for anniversaries and birthdays.

8. Know Your Precious Metals

Ring settings for engagement can come in many precious metals. The best part is that the same setting design can be made with different precious metals. For engagement rings, the most popular precious metals include gold, silver, white and yellow gold. The choice of precious material will influence the style and upkeep requirements of your ring.

9. You do not need jewelry insurance to get a warrantee.

It is common to mistake warranties for jewelry coverage, but these are very different things. You can get jewelry insurance or protection against theft and damage, as well as warranties such our Peace of Mind extended plan.

10. You Can Go Custom

You can create a custom engagement band if you’re having trouble finding your perfect ring. Making a custom engagement ring is easy and cheaper than you might think. The extra time required to design and create something custom is well worth it. After the process is complete, you will have a unique ring, just like you love.
