When should kids learn to snowboard?

The traditional advice has been to get children skiing first. There was a reason to this. Until recently, there was a huge absence of appropriate equipment for the smallest snowboarders and we’re aware that beginning to learn to ski or board with a poorly-fitting snowboard can make your day miserable! Luckily, Burton have solved this issue by introducing new boards and bindings that are specifically made for children’s shredders. They allow children to start their journey with the snow as early as two years old! The’Riglet’ plastic boards come with a retractable cable handle which allows a parent or instructor to regulate the speed, direction and even tow children. They’ve also created to be easy to put on, using Velcro closure boots with single straps, making it easy for children to get aged 2 and above to the slopes and riding within a matter of minutes.

Another reason we’ve been told to wait until children are older to be able to ride the board is that snowboarding requires more muscle growth that children younger (under the age of 8) aren’t yet able to develop But is this correct?

Snowboarding is an extremely natural stance for children and I’m convinced that they’re less prone to injuries than skiing (no risk of twisting your legs, etc.) thus there’s no problem with children who do not have the strength and physical endurance to board. It’s a matter of sitting up on the board and then going straight. For the edges to be used is a matter of as they get ready. generally , at the age of three, every child is capable of using the edge of the heel. It is as a matter of being and physically ready and as soon as they’re ready to grasp the benefits of turning, they can begin this process.

Every child develops and advance according to their own individual pace both in their muscle development of their skeletal system and progress in the snow, so the most important thing to do is to make sure that they be having fun. Before heading out on the slopes, check out the snowboard blogs and read stories from experienced ‘boarders.

Top Tips for First-Timers

Give your kids the option of whether they’d prefer to snowboard or ski is irrelevant in the long run as long as they’re having fun.

Do not try to get them to master both – trying to master both boarding and skiing simultaneously will just be confusing and drastically decrease the progression of either or both sports.

Allow them to have a slope in small doses . Keep the duration short and sweet, and don’t let them get tired (hot chocolate breaks always taste great! ).

Don’t try to teach your children by at home – it’s definitely worth it to get lessons with an expert in order to accelerate their progress and ensure their safety. ensure that they have enjoyable times also (most important of all) keep a clear-cut line of communication between the family!

Make sure your kids have an option for a snack in the event of an emergency that they can carry around within their pocket (PowderBeds suggestion… treat-sized bar of chocolate or boxes with raisins make the perfect sugar boost in a small-sized package).

Not gloves but gloves. They are much easier to put off and on and, in most cases, warmer.

Now that we’ve established that children can get to snowboard at the age of 2 if they’re ready and willing, the next question is what is the best place for them to start their snowboarding journey?

There are a myriad of fantastic resorts to learn how to snowboard at both Europe as well as North America, but here are our top five:

Best Resorts to Learn How to Snowboard

Avoriaz is on highest of the list. Burton have been able to cast their magic over Avoriaz and, in addition to being located close to Geneva Avoriaz, this family-friendly resort is also the home of its personal Burton Riglet park, as well as shops around town have Riglet equipment that is available for hire.

Whistler World-class resort that is a paradise for children Ski or snowboarding schools of North America have been ahead of the curve and have been getting youngsters to snowboard for a long time. There is also an Burton Riglet park and once the children are able to run, they can easily go across the entire mountain using blue and green trails, meaning you’ll never be restricted to the beginner section. Children can take part in snowboarding lessons in groups at Whistler mountain starting at age four and can take private lessons starting at 2.5yrs old.

Les Arcs – Massively family and pet-friendly, Les Arcs offers plenty of lifts that are available for free for those who are just beginning to take a few easy slopes to begin your journey on. Then there’s an abundance of soft blue and green slopes that you can explore at your leisure and many are wide and nice that make a difference when beginning to learn how to turn. You should check out Mille 8 also an amazing playground for children to explore or visit after a long day to enjoy the swimming pools as well as sledging. In the area of instruction, New Generation offer private snowboarding lessons for children aged 5 and over or group lesson (not specifically designed for children) starting at age 10. Kids can participate in classes through Spirit in Arc 1950 as young as age 8 and also with the ESF at age 8 during holidays in school and at age 10 for throughout the year.

La Rosiere La Rosiere Les Arcs, this lesser well-known resort has more tranquil slopes and an attractive resort center. Kids can participate in Evolution 2 group lessons from age 8 and ESF lessons starting at age 8 during school holidays , and the age of 10 in the off-peak week. When you’ve gained more knowledge, you can move to the more sloping Italian part of the mountain. It’s ideal for beginners because about 90% of La Rosiere terrain is suitable for novices, so there’s plenty of room for progress.

Alpe d’Huez – Known as one of the most sunniest resorts of the Alps, Alpe d’Huez is ideal for children learning because its slopes facing south typically prevents kids from becoming too cold. The beginner area located above the resort offers plenty of green trails that are accessible via several lifts that have a lower beginner pass. The local ESF offers a variety of meeting points at the bottom of the resort, as well as an excellent play area for children to play in. Similar to every ESF bases, snowboarding lessons begin at age 10 during the off peak times and 8 in the school holiday.
