What is a BS4142 assessment?

It is a British Standard describes how to evaluate the sound that is industrial , commercial and commercial type. It can, for instance, be used to determine the level of sound generated by manufacturing process or fixed plant. In essence, BS 4142:2014 tells us how to determine the levels of sound produced in the outdoors by work. Then, it explains how to utilize these measurements to determine the effect on the people living in nearby residential areas.

The most recent version of this document was supported by a significant amount of knowledge gained through the earlier versions. Along with actual experience, the new guidance also draws on the development of information derived from research conducted in recent fields of acousticsand human perception and health.

The response to the sound is a subjective. It is a fact that the response to sound can differ from one person to. It can also be affected by many other variables. The factors that affect it includethe degree to which the source of noise is in comparison to other sounds within the vicinity and the total volume of the sound; and the general attitudes towards the person who is creating the noise.

To achieve this, BS4142 pay particular attention to the how sound is interpreted in the context. The document also acknowledges the distinction between noise and sound. It defines sound as something which can be measured with an appropriate measurement device like the sound level meter. Noise is, however is related to the human sense. In the end the term “noise” is usually interpreted in the form of “unwanted noise”.

Noise Evaluations are required for Electrical or Mechanical Plants

One of the most important reasons to use BS 4142: 2014, is to evaluate the noise emission from externally-fixed mechanical and electrical plants. Although assessing noise and vibrations of open or construction locations may require a different assessment technique, most industrial or commercial processes will be suitable for an assessment using BS 4142.
